Mr. Jayaram Banan the Architect and founder of the nationally acclaimed and most popular chain of restaurants Sagar Ratna and Swagath is an energetic and pleasing personality.

In 1986, Mr. Banan started the first branch of Sagar Ratna in the quite market of Defense colony in New Delhi with a seating capacity just 40. Overwhelmed by the support of his patrons and the community. Mr. Banan realized the need of the hour and quickly increased the capacity of Sagar Ratna, Defense colony of to its present seating capacity of 225 seats.

With hard work and a die-hard resolve and commitment for achieving excellence in every task undertaken by him, Mr. Banan single handedly built his chain of Restaurants brick-by-brick never giving up despite hardships encountered. The popularity of Sagar Ratna continued to grow in geometric progression and within a short span it spread its wings and waves far and wide. Today Sagar Ratna has established its presence throughout the National Capital Region (NCR) through company owned branches and beyond NCR through Franchisee outlets

It is a testimony to its popularity that even today Delhites still throng to its Defense Colony branch and patiently wait for hours together to get a bite of the authentic South Indian cuisine.

Sagar Ratna has been the recipient of the Times Food Awards consistently since 2003. The restaurant has also been conferred with several awards by National institutions like the National Egg Co-Ordination Committee for Delhi’s best restaurant 2005. The strong business model of Sagar Ratna was also recognized in 2003 by Franchise awards for excellence in franchising and business development. Most recently Sagar Ratna was awarded the Golden Spoon Award 2009 for most admired restaurant of the Year by Coca-Cola.

The success of Sagar Ratna drove Mr. Banan’s dreams to start Swagath in 2003, a multi cuisine restaurant & bar in the heart of Defense colony. Within a short time, Swagath has gained immense popularity and today shares the similar stature as Sagar Ratna. Swagath is the darling of diners who love coastal, Chettinad, Mughlai & Chinese cuisine.

As with Sagar Ratna, Mr. Banan left nothing to chance and has won many a prestigious awards including Times Food Award (Best Coastal Restaurant)-for the years 2004, 2006 to 2009, the latest being ranked as one of the top five restaurants in India and among the top 450 Restaurants in Asia, both initiated by the renowned Miele Guide.

Mr. Banan’s mantra of success is quiet simple- hard work, self-confidence and attention to detail. He believes that competition is what drives his passion for Excellence.
